I was looking for some input about the RZR and RZR S. I know I have seen some pics of people on here have the RZR, I was wondering what they though of it? I'm looking at purchesing one when I return from this deployment.

I've been running a "regular" Rzr for almost 2 years up here, and have been extremely pleased with it.  One of my main reasons for buying a Rzr (the S wasn't available when we bought ours) was that it is almost the same size as a regular ATV, and thus we would be able to go anywhere the riders on regular ATVs could while on club rides.  That said, virtually all ATV trails in this area are also accessible by full-sized side-by-sides (Rangers, Rhinos, etc.), Jeeps, 4WD pickups, and even moose buggies--so size really is not that much of a limit.

The S has a lot of nice features, but remember that it was designed to run at high speeds in the dunes.  Our terrain here is more technical, and there are very few places where you can really travel any significant distance wide open.

Regardless of which model you choose, remember to "armor it up."  I'd suggest aftermarket full-body skid plates (I'm running the Factory UTV UHMW ones), good all-terrain mud tires (I ended up replacing my stock Rzr tires with Maxxis Bighorns--the same tire which comes stock on the S), and a strong winch.  Plus, particularly on the regular Rzr, a lift kit for a few more inches of ground clearance really helps.

So, they'll both work just fine up here.  The S comes with some nice features (added ground clearance, better stock tires, more suspension travel), and some which will only really come into play if you run at high speeds (the wider wheel stance, the racing shocks, and the slightly more powerful engine).  With the regular Rzr you save several thousand dollars off the S, which you can then use to accessorize to your particular tastes.

If you ride alone, you win all the arguments!

I have to say, SR (and his rzr) has gone anywhere, through anything, on a total equal footing that any of the standard built up atvs have.  On no ride have I ever seen him be the pinch point! Grin
I do occasionally wonder who is driving, him or the puppy dog... Grin
I think the puppy dog does a much better job! Grin
All of that said, put your tracks on and lets go SR! Roll Eyes Grin Cheesy

Rockhound,
Willow would like to use you as a reference on her driving learners' permit application!  She's my designated driver (on both the road and trails).

On a separate topic, what riding conditions are we currently in--tire or track?

I purchased a RZR S last July when I got back from Afghanistan. I freaking love it. I also own a Rhino. Both are good machines. I think the RZR is a little better for trail capabilities. As far as the S vs Standard RZR.....both are good. I like the extra width (stability) and suspension travel on the S. It is more suitable to rough and fast-paced riding. I like your screen name. Are you a rigger? I was an enlisted rigger 2004-2006 before going to OCS.  I am in the Captain Career Course at FT Lee right now. I get three choices for follow-on assignments. Alaska is on my list. I am new to the site.....looking for info on Alaska in the chance that I may get stationed there.
